In the Summer of 2020 one of our new families joining the school asked if we would like some chickens that they were hatching during lockdown. After some conversations in school about the benefits and potential hazards, discussion about the opportunity to enhance the school curriculum, risk assessments, and a fundraising fun run and sea dip, we finally welcomed our newest members of our school community to Alver Valley in September. The Year R children had the important task of naming our chickens, and after a discussion and ‘vote with their feet’ they decided upon ‘Sparkles’ and ‘Flower’.
