We want to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design, so they become more proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.

Children will develop curiosity and be able to explore their ideas and allow their imaginations to be reflected in the work they create. They are provided with the language of art to engage and express their thoughts and ideas.

Children have a growing knowledge of how art has developed over time and how it has contributed to the culture in their society today and the wider world.

Through creating opportunities to respond to great artists, craft makers and designers we want our children to develop confidence to evaluate and reflect their own attitudes and values towards art.

Learning Journeys in art allow children to build and develop skills over time in their sketch books culminating in a final piece employing those new skills and techniques.

Our Subject Leader for Art works alongside year groups to support them with the development of carefully designed Learning Journeys in Art. She also supports teachers to develop their skills and knowledge of techniques in creative CPD sessions, such as staff art clubs. To read about Year R messy art day click here.
