When we launched the Alver Valley Arts Council, we were clear that we wanted to immerse children in the Arts in addition to taking part in creative activities, learning new skills and championing the Arts in our school.

Today we were able to take children to a wonderful new local gallery in Gosport to start to do just that. Yellow Edge Gallery, on Stoke Road, is free to explore. Director Steve Buggle welcomed us into the gallery to view the fabulous current exhibit titled ‘Flower Power’, and we even had the privilege of meeting a couple of the artists currently showing their work, who kindly talked us through their approach and techniques.

After a good look around the gallery, and discussion about the artwork on show, the Arts Council took out their sketch books and sketched some of their favourite pieces. Some of the children also tried out Procreate, a painting app, using layers to recreate and interpret some of the artwork. We were also able to share the experience with Steve, the Chair of our governing body, who joined us at the gallery excited to learn more about the Arts Council’s role in school and our upcoming project.

Whilst there we also picked up some hints and tips on displaying art, and what makes a great art show, ready for our upcoming whole school art project on climate change. Watch this space for more as it happens or check out our art competition here. For now we will leave you with some photos of our trip.
