As part of their topic on pirates, Year R asked for some top tips for drawing pirates from author and illustrator Simon Rickerty, who illustrates the “Ten Little” series of books.
Simon very kindly made a video to teach us how to draw pirates, which we tried out in class. Why not watch the video and have a go yourself at drawing along to create your very own “Ten Little Pirate” in the style of the illustrator.
As a special World Book Day challenge we ran a “Ten Little” competition for all year groups. Children and adults had to:
- Draw a pirate in the style of Simon;
or - Think up a new character for a “Ten Little” series.
The older winners went to our local bookshop in Lee-On-The-Solent to choose a book prize, and our youngest winners received a signed copy of the book “Ten Little Pirates” from the lovely Simon himself! KS2 also received a signed picture from Simon. We had great fun drawing and creating – why not try it yourself? Arrrrrrrrrrr!
