Year R had the best time visiting St Mary’s Church Year R had the best time visiting St Mary’s Church Rowner yesterday as part of their learning about Easter. Children talked about what Easter meant for them with chocolate eggs featuring highly! Then they heard from the Fantastic Rev Will about how Christian’s celebrate Easter. Children heard the Easter story before being set the challenge to order pictures from the story. Everyone then moved into the hall where Kirsty and friends showed us how to make bracelets with beads and stained glass crosses. Finally we went back into the church and Will showed us some of the stained glass windows in the church. When we got back to school we met PCSO Steve and friends who said hi and gave us some stickers! Steve has booked to come and visit us in school after the Easter break, how exciting! Thank you to everyone who made our visit possible. #alvervalley #community #alvervalleyschools @st_marys_church_rowner #easter #gosportpolice
Last week, a small group of children from our Juni Last week, a small group of children from our Junior School had the opportunity to visit the RSPCA Centre, The Stubbington Ark. As a school we have been collecting donations for the animals and so the children took those along and got the chance to meet some of the animals that will benefit from your generosity. Kate, the Centre manager, gave the children a tour and they learnt more about animal welfare and the work the RSPCA do to care for animals. One of the highlights was meeting the huge goats, Moose and Goose. The children also got stuck in helping by making some enrichment food for the rabbits. Thank you @thestubbingtonark for the brilliant visit. Keep up the great work. #rspca #bekind #alvervalleyschools #5waystowellbeing #give
As part of their learning about growing, based on As part of their learning about growing, based on the book ‘Errol’s Garden’, Year R walked to Alver Valley Garden Centre this week to find out more about gardening & to purchase some seeds, compost & plants. The children loved exploring the garden centre, deciding what to spend our money on, & getting some great tips & advice from the super knowledgeable staff at the garden centre. Special shout out to Mr M who told us lots about the plants, enabling children to decide on a new class plant: a Pickle plant for Owls 🦉 and a spider plant for the Squirrels. 🐿️ Don’t forget that Thursday 16th April is our Stay and Grow, with parents & carers coming into school in the afternoon to help us create a new garden in our Yr R area & to plant some seeds. As ever, more photos on Class Do Jo. Qs@alvervalleygardencentre #eyfs #errolsgarden #bethebook
On Friday 6th March, Year 2 took the coach to Long On Friday 6th March, Year 2 took the coach to Longdown Dairy Farm as part of their Science learning about animals and humans! They had a fantastic time feeding the goats, kids and calves. Children even got to hold a guinea pig and a chick (as long as they were very quiet and gentle...) and collect some eggs for Farmer Brian. As a special surprise, one of the pigs had recently given birth to lots of piglets and the children got to see them feeding from her. On Thursday 5th March, Alver Valley Schools celebr On Thursday 5th March, Alver Valley Schools celebrated World Book Day in style! We dressed up as our favourite book characters, brought in our books to share with children from other classes and rapped our way through some classic books. We also celebrated reading after school at the official Alver Valley Booknic and the Book Fayre. Thank you to all of the parents, children, staff and PTA who helped to make this such a wonderful day celebrating reading. A particular thank you to our Librarian, Mrs Tatem, for all of her hard work setting up the day. #readingrocks #welovereading #worldbookday
Today Yr R celebrated Dotty Art Day, inspired by t Today Yr R celebrated Dotty Art Day, inspired by the work of Yayoi Kusama. We read how Yayoi dreamed of being an artist from a young age and we learnt that she created art in various forms including sculpture. We learnt that Yayoi covered everything in dots and wasn’t sorry! We decided to follow her example and took part in a range of dotty art, starting with the great dotty classroom challenge where classes worked as teams to turn them dotty in the battle of the dots! After that, children enjoyed creating dotty-inspired work using various techniques: splatting, masking, clay sculpture, dabbing, marbling, painting with fingers, brushes and cotton buds, printing and collage. We also looked at Kandinsky’s circles and this inspired a fabulous collaborative piece. #eyfs #artsmark @gosportmuseumgallery @eytagteam
Parents and Carers, come along to our next Empower Parents and Carers, come along to our next Empowerment Approach Workshop on Friday 6th February to find out more about how we are using The Empowerment Approach tools in school and what you could try out at home.

This time our focus will be: ‘Powerless and Empowered Positions’ and ‘Speak Up for Better’. Speaking personally I think these two tools can support us as adults to see things differently as much as they can the children!

I will share how we are using these tools when we support children to reflect on their words and actions to help them to engage and not become defensive. I will also share how with ‘Speak Up for Better’ we can communicate our message clearly and teach children to do the same whilst supporting and teaching the skill development of Empathy. Everyone is welcome.
