Could you volunteer to make a difference in the life of children and families in our community? Alver Valley Schools are looking for some new Governors to join our board.
- Reasons to volunteer
-
- Help children fulfil their aspirations
- Model the values of your community and make a difference to the lives of young people
- Meet great new people and bring a fresh perspective to the work of the board
- Develop new skills and knowledge with governor training
You do not have to be a parent or an education professional to be a school governor – schools value a diverse range of skills and perspectives.
- What governors do
-
A school’s governing body has three main functions.
- To ensure that the school has a clear vision and direction
- To hold the headteacher to account for the school’s performance
- To make sure that the school’s money is well spent
Being a school governor means being interested in getting the best education for the pupils at the school. Governors can become involved in a range of school matters, which can include recruitment, finance and curriculum.
They also provide a strong link between the school and the local community, and an independent view to support the school on long term development and improvement.
Our governance boards meets 10 times a year (monthly) and governors are also expected to get to know their schools through visits. There are a range of training opportunities available to help governors undertake their duties and develop their understanding of the key areas of school management.
